MCA, Vanessa & Wade's Apartment, Sunday Afternoon

Vanessa was in the middle of putting away some laundry when she noticed something. Something...unusual.

Actually, it wasn't unusual at all. It had been there all along. She had just walked past it a thousand times without ever noticing it before.

"Hey, babe," she called over her shoulder, her arms still full of towels. "Has this door always been here?"

"Isn't that a linen closet?" Wade called back, not moving from the couch where there was a good ol' marathon of Golden Girls playing now that they pulled Roseanne from the channel.

"No," Vanessa said, "this door," the one she was currently failing to open with her foot, "is the linen closet." She considered the mystery door. "Maybe it's another linen closet?" They didn't own enough linens to need a second closet, so maybe that was why she hadn't noticed it.

She should have waited for a commercial break. By this point in their relationship she knew better than to get between Wade and Bea Arthur.

They could buy more linens and feel very adult about owning such things.

"Is it a gun closet?" It could be a gun closet.

"Only if you forgot where you put all your guns again." Which wasn't outside of the realm of possibility.

Vanessa had finally gotten the door to the actual linen closet open, and she shoved the towels in and slammed the door before they had a chance to fall out again. They would the next time the door was opened, but that was a problem for whoever opened the door.

"I'm gonna open it," she decided.

Here was hoping there wasn't a monster in there.

"...okay," he called back, peering over the couch in the direction of her voice and maybe grabbing a gun just in case. "Make safe choices, babe."

Oh, she was definitely standing to the side of the door as she opened it. Mama and the streets hadn't raised no fool. She peered cautiously around the door frame.

"It's a whole room! We have a whole other room in here!" She considered said extremely dusty room. "It could be a gun closet."

"Wait, what now?" Because it'd just be ridiculous if they didn't know about an entire room in the apartment they'd been living for well over a year now.

Ridiculous enough that he was breaking away from Golden Girls to investigate with her.

"Holy shit, you're right. We got ourselves a sex room."

Which was different from the other rooms somehow?

"I thought that was all of the rooms," Vanessa said.

"What are we? Savages?" he asked, hooking an arm around her waist.

"Might be," Vanessa said, leaning back against him. "It could be a guest room?" she suggested, sounding dubious. "If we ever had a guest."

"We could us it for Weasel or Al," he said, knowing full well that would literally never happen.

God, no.

"Maybe Xavier's will blow up again and Colossus or Negasonic will need a place to crash." Ha, 'maybe.' "Or," Vanessa said slowly, a thought beginning to form in her mind that she was not sure she should even bring up.

"Oooor we could have a game room," Wade suggested, looking around the empty room. Because that there was a serious conversation that he hadn't rally put any thought into since they never had those weird fake kids show up for them.

"We could," Vanessa said, and she bit her lip and then went for it. "Or, don't freak out, maybe we could talk about the possibility of a...nursery?"

"For growing our own pot?" No, he knew what she was saying there. He totally knew. Which was why he was frowning a little, more thoughtful than upset about it, really.

"I mean, if that's what you want to do! We'd just have to be careful because the humidity can cause major mold problems." The neighbors already had to listen to them having sex, she didn't want to go giving them allergies too.

But yeah, that was definitely not the kind of nursery she had been talking about.

"Is this because one of the X-Men got knocked up?" Of course he paid attention to the news about that. Because it'd only end in some building being destroyed.

Or time travel. Probably time travel.

Vanessa didn't keep up with the X-Men news as well, probably because they weren't trying to recruit her. "What? No. Please tell me it's not either of the X-Men I know." She would fly up to New York and drive Negasonic to the clinic herself. Colossus would probably want to keep it.

"No, it's just, I don't know...something to think about, maybe?"

"No, no. One of the ones here." Which made a difference.

He let out a sigh, leaning against the wall of their brand new room. "You want a kid with me." Because that clarification was important.

At least it wasn't Colossus.

"I mean, maybe?" Vanessa said. "Yes? If you want a kid with me? But if you don't then no, I don't, because that's a shitty thing to do to three people, and we can start planning our awesome new game room."

They were simultaneously the best and worst at talking about their feelings with each other.

Wade reached over to pull her closer for a kiss. "I guess between the whole cancer, super powers, near-death stuff, it never came up."

"Things sort of happened really fast for a while there," she agreed. "This doesn't have to--I mean, the baby factory is closed for business right now, and we've got time." She leaned in to kiss him again, then pulled back and said sternly, "But only so much time, I'm not gonna be like that actress who's knocked up at fifty-four."

"Don't tease me with images of MILF you, baby," he replied. "Otherwise we'll have to break in the new room right now."

"There's nothing stopping us from breaking in the new room," Vanessa pointed out. "Unless you need to get back to Bea Arthur."

She would understand if he chose Bea Arthur, but: choose carefully, Wade.

"This is Sophie's Choice," Wade hissed, making the saddest face. "I wanna make breaking in this room special. We could watch some parenting movies and then come in here to have missionary position sex, lights off, full of shame like god intended."

"Kinky," Vanessa said approvingly. "Also we should probably clean it first. Like responsible adults. Because I don't want spiderwebs in my vagina."

"And then we can put together a Ward and June Cleaver cosplay," Wade said excitedly.

Wade, no.

"Not my kind of pearl necklace, babe," Vanessa said, to let him down easy.

"Who said you were gonna be June?"

Well, she walked right into that one.

"Okay, but you're not wearing my heels again, you stretched them out last time. You'll have to get your own."

Damn right she did.

"Fine, but I expect some casual 50's misogyny for it."

"Get in the kitchen and make me a sandwich," Vanessa said, and smacked Wade not-so-lightly on the butt.

Wade gasped and fluttered his eyelashes, starting away from her before glancing back over his shoulder. "I have feelings, you know."

Guys, seriously. C'mon.

"I'll show you feelings," Vanessa said, before dropping it for, "But seriously, I didn't have lunch yet, I'm hungry."

"Cheetos grilled cheese, coming right up, baby."

Oh god, they'd have to eat healthy if they had a kid, wouldn't they?

It wasn't like they'd ever eaten healthy when they were kids, and they'd turned out just fine!

They just had to keep the future kid/kids away from lead paint and power lines.

He blew her a kiss, going to make her a culinary fucking masterpiece that was going to be cut into the shape of a heart. Because a dick would be too much removed.
